Alimony
Financial support one spouse may be ordered to pay the other during or after a divorce, depending on the parties’ circumstances and the statutory factors.

Tennessee recognises several types of spousal support, and which one fits depends on the length of the marriage, the parties’ relative earning capacity, and what each spouse needs and can afford.
The statutory factors a court weighs are set out in the Tennessee Code and include the duration of the marriage, the age and health of each party, earning capacity, the separate and marital assets each will hold after division, and the standard of living during the marriage.
Whether alimony is modifiable later, and for how long it runs, depends on the type awarded and the terms of the order or agreement. That is worth understanding before an agreement is signed rather than afterwards.
